Frequently asked questions.
Honest answers to the questions Steve gets asked most often - including the ones worth asking before you book.
About animal communication
What is animal communication, exactly?
Animal communication is the practice of reading what an animal is expressing - through posture, energy, behaviour patterns, and the non-verbal language all animals use. It's not magic and it's not a performance. It's a skill that can be developed with practice and attention.
Steve reads what's actually there. He doesn't invent things to tell you, and he doesn't promise to hear your animal's "voice." What he does is observe carefully, interpret what he finds, and report it back to you in plain language.
Is this scientific?
The short answer: some of it is, some of it isn't - and Steve is clear about the difference. The behavioural and physiological aspects of reading animals are well-established in veterinary science, ethology, and animal behaviour research. The deeper communication work sits outside that framework, and Steve doesn't pretend otherwise.
What Steve offers is practical and grounded. He doesn't ask you to take anything on faith - he reports what he observes and you decide what to do with it.
Do you need to be physically present with the animal?
No. Steve can work remotely - via Zoom, or through a photo and questionnaire for audio/written readings. Distance does not appear to reduce what he can read. Many of his clients are in Australia, the UK, and North America.
In-person sessions are available for clients in Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Auckland. Some clients prefer in-person work; others find the remote format equally effective. If you're unsure, mention it in your intro call.
Can you communicate with animals that have passed?
Steve does not offer this as a standard service. It's not something he actively works with in most sessions. If this is specifically what you're looking for, mention it in your intro call and Steve will tell you honestly whether he can help or whether a different practitioner would be more appropriate.

How long does a session take?
In-person and remote sessions run for 60 minutes. Audio and written readings have no set session duration - Steve works at his own pace and delivers the reading by email. The intro call is 15 minutes.
What do I need to prepare?
After your intro call, Steve will send you a short questionnaire. It covers the basics - your animal's name, age, species, and a brief description of what's been going on. That's the main preparation required.
For in-person sessions: have your animal in their normal environment if possible. You don't need to do anything special to prepare them. For remote sessions via Zoom: a stable internet connection and a quiet space to talk.
What will I receive after the session?
A recording of the session (audio or video, depending on format) and written notes covering Steve's key observations and any recommendations. These are delivered by email within a few days of the session.
Can I book for multiple animals?
Yes. Each animal is a separate session. If you have several animals and want to work with more than one, mention this in your intro call. Steve can help you prioritise and schedule accordingly.
What if nothing clear comes through in the session?
Steve will tell you. This doesn't happen often, but it does happen. If a session produces nothing clear or useful, Steve will say so rather than fill the time with vague observations. Honesty is more useful than a comfortable story.

Is animal communication a substitute for a vet?
No. This is the most important question on this page.
If your animal is unwell, injured, or showing signs of illness, please see your vet first. Animal communication is not a medical service. Steve does not diagnose illness, recommend treatments, or suggest that you delay or avoid veterinary care.
Steve's work can complement veterinary care - some clients find it helpful alongside treatment. But it does not replace it, and Steve is clear about that.
Can Steve diagnose illness or injury?
No. Steve is not a veterinarian and does not provide medical diagnoses. If you suspect your animal is unwell or in pain, that is a veterinary matter. Please see your vet.
If something that comes up in a session sounds like it might have a physical cause, Steve will say so and suggest you have your animal checked by a vet.
Can Steve guarantee results?
No. Steve works with what's actually there. He doesn't promise specific outcomes, predetermined insights, or particular results. Some sessions produce clear and useful information; others are more limited. Both are possible, and Steve will not pretend otherwise.
The intro call exists to help you make an informed decision before committing to a session.
