Meet Steve.

Animal communicator. Based in Waikato. Working with animals for over 20 years.

How Steve came to this work.

Steve Mullan has spent over 20 years working with animals of every kind. Dogs, horses, cats, birds, wildlife - from the farms of Waikato to the open ocean off Kaikoura. What he's found, consistently, is that animals communicate constantly. Most people just haven't been shown how to listen.

That's not a mystical claim. Animals express themselves through posture, energy, behaviour patterns, and responses that most owners see every day without being able to read. Steve learned to read them. He now teaches others to do the same.

His path into this work wasn't a single moment - it was a slow accumulation. Horses that kept ending up at the same fence. Dogs whose anxiety had a clear pattern that no trainer had spotted. A cat that changed behaviour the same week her owner did. These things don't happen by accident. They happen because animals pay attention to us, and we mostly don't return the favour.

Steve does.

"Most people assume animals need to be in the same room. They don't. What animals communicate doesn't require proximity - it requires attention."

Steve has worked with animals in wildly different contexts - domestic pets, farm animals, wildlife, and animals in professional environments. The principles are the same across all of them: observe carefully, listen without agenda, and report honestly what's there.

How a session actually feels.

Calm. Unhurried. Practical.

Steve doesn't put on a performance. He's not going to close his eyes, speak in a different register, or tell you things that sound profound but mean nothing. He'll sit with your animal, pay attention, and tell you what he finds - in plain language, as he goes.

Sometimes what he finds confirms what you already suspected. Sometimes it surprises you. Either way, you leave the session with a clearer picture of what's going on with your animal - and something specific you can do about it.

Sessions run at your animal's pace, not at a schedule. If your horse needs to move around, they move around. If your dog needs ten minutes to settle, they get ten minutes. The session ends when there's nothing left to find.

What Steve doesn't do.

Steve won't tell you what you want to hear. If a session produces nothing clear, he'll say so. If what he finds is uncomfortable, he'll say that too. If your animal's behaviour is a medical issue rather than a communication one, he'll tell you to call your vet.

Animal communication is not a substitute for veterinary care. Steve is explicit about this. He will not provide medical diagnoses, recommend treatments, or suggest you delay or avoid veterinary attention. If your animal is unwell, the vet comes first.

What Steve offers is a different kind of insight - into what your animal is communicating, what they're experiencing, and what might be driving the behaviour you're seeing. That's a specific and limited thing. He's clear about what it is and what it isn't.
